Just Once!?! Miss World History:)

Here is a list of countries/territories that joined Miss World only once
since the pageant started. I did not include Serbia, Montenegro, and Cambodia
since these countries had their debut in the pageant just this year.
This list includes some information about these countries/territories:
ALGERIA
2002 – Lamia Saoudi (none-placer)
- it is the second largest country in Africa and is officially known as People’s Decmocratic Republic of Algeria. It is a member of African Union and OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries).
ANDORRA
2003 – Maria Jose Girol Jumenez (none-placer)
- it is a small lancllocked country in Southwester Europe and is officially called the Principality of Andorra. It is currently a prosperous country because of tourism and its status as a tax haven. It has the highest life expectancy in the world at 83.52 years.
BONAIRE
1996 – Jhane-Louise Landwier (none-placer)
- it is an island in the Netherlands Antilles and is a part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Its capital is Kralendijk and Dutch is its official language.
BURMA
1960 – Ma Sen Aye (none-placer)
- it is now called Myanmar and is the largest country by geographical area in mainland Southeast Asia. It is known as Union of Burma by many organizations and states.
CAPE VERDE
1997 – Carmelinda Goncalves (none-placer)
- it is a republic located on an archipelago in the Macaronesia ecoregion of the North Atlantic Ocean, off the western coast of Africa. It was discovered and colonized by Portuguese in the 15th century. It is named after Cap Vert (Green Cape) in Senegal, the westernmost point of continental Africa.
DOMINICA
1978 – Mona Jno-Lewis (none-placer)
- it is an island nation in the Caribbean Sea with Roseau as its capital. It should not be composed with the Dominican Republic, another Caribbean nation. Because the island lies between two French overseas departments (Guadeloupe and Martinique), and because it was colonized by France for a time, it is sometimes called “French Dominica”.
FIJI ISLANDS
2004 – Aishwarya Sukhdeo (none-placer)
- it is an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean. It occupies an archipelago of about 322 islands, 106 of which are permanently inhabited. Its 2 major islands Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, account for 87% of the population.
HAITI
1975 – Joelle Apollon (6th placer)
- it occupies one-third of the Carribean Island of Hispaniola, sharing it with Dominican Republic. ‘Ayiti’ was the indigenous name for the island. Its capital is Port-au-Prince and is officially known as Republic of Haiti.
IVORY COAST
1985 – Rose Armande Oulla (none-placer)
- Côte d’Ivoire, its official name, when translated into English is Ivory Coast, is a country in West Africa. Its capital is Yamoussoukro and the official language is French.
MONTSERRAT
1964 – Helen Joseph (semi-finalist)
- it is a British Overseas territory located in the Leeward islands, part of the chain of islands called the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean Sea. It is often referred to as the Emerald Island of the Caribbean, due both to its resemblance to coastal Ireland and to the Irish descent of most of its early European settlers.
NORTHERN MARIANAS
2003 – Kimberly Nicole Reyes (none-placer)
- it is a commonwealth in political union with the United States of America at a strategic location in the Western Pacific Ocean. Of note is that the Northern Mariana Islands have the highest female to male sex ration in the world, with an average of 77 men to every 100 women.
TANGANYIKA
1960 – Carmen Lesley Woodcock (none-placer)
- it is an East African territory lying between the largest African great lakes: Lake Victoria, Lake Malawi, and Lake Tanganyika, after which it was named.
