Just Once!?! Miss Universe History:)

Here is a list of countries/territories that joined Miss Universe only once since the pageant started. I did not include Serbia, Montenegro, and Tanzania since these countries had their debut in the pageant just this year. This list includes some information about these countries/territories:
BOPHUTHATSWANA
1979 – Alina Moeketse (none-placer)
- it was a “homeland” in the north west of South Africa. The capital Mmabatho was situated in an area bordering Botswana. It was a client-state of South Africa and was not recognized by any government other than that of South Africa. On April 27, 1994, it was reincorporated into South Africa and now part of its North West Province.
COMMONWEALTH OF INDEPENDENT STATES
1992 – Lidia Kubomskaya (none-placer)
- it is the international organization or alliance consisting of eleven former Soviet Republics: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
DAHOMEY
1962 – Gilette Hazoume (none-placer)
- it was the name of a country in Africa now called Republic of Benin. It was a powerful west African state founded in the 17th century which survived until 1894. from 1894 until 1960, it was part of French West Africa. The independent Republic of Dahomey existed from 1960 to 1975.
DOMINICA
1985 – Margaret Rose Cools-Lartigue (none-placer)
- it is an island nation in the Caribbean Sea with Roseau as its capital. It should not be composed with the Dominican Republic, another Caribbean nation. Because the island lies between two French overseas departments (Guadeloupe and Martinique), and because it was colonized by France for a time, it is sometimes called “French Dominica”.
GRENADA
1964 – Christine Hughes (none-placer)
- it is an island nation in the Southeastern Caribbean Sea including the Southern Grenadines. It is the second smallest independent country in the Western Hemisphere. It was 1498 when Christopher Columbus first sighted the island.
IRAQ
1972 – Wijdan Burham El-Deen Sulyman(none-placer)
- it is officially known as Republic of Iraq, a country in the Middle East. It is a developing Parliamentary Democracy composed of 18 governorates. Baghdad is its capital.
IVORY COAST
1986 – Marie Francoise Kouame (none-placer)
- Côte d’Ivoire, its official name, when translated into English is Ivory Coast, is a country in West Africa. Its capital is Yamoussoukro and the official language is French.
JORDAN
1960 – Helen Giatanapoulus (none-placer)
- it is an Arab country in the Middle East in Western Asia. It is officially known as the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Administratively, it is divided into 12 governorates, each headed by a governor appointed by the king.
LESOTHO
1978 – Joan Libuseng Khoali (none-placer)
- it is a land-locked country entirely surrounded by the Republic of South Africa. Officially called Kingdom of Lesotho, it is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations and formerly called Basutoland.
MADAGASCAR
1961 – Jacqueline Robertson (none-placer)
- it is an island nation in the Indian ocean, off the southeastern coast of Africa. The Main island, also called Madagascar, is the fourth largest island in the world and is home to five percent of the world's plant and animal species.
MALAYA
1962 – Sarah Alhabshee Abdullah (none-placer)
- it is the Federation of Malay states prior to formation of Malaysia. It consists of 11 states and 2 federal territories.
MICRONESIA
1975 – Elena Delunger Tomokane (none-placer)
- it is an island nation located in the Pacific Ocean, northeast of Papua New Guinea. The country is a sovereign state in free association with the United States. It is located in the region known as “Micronesia”consists of hundreds of small islands divided in seven territories. The term Micronesia may refer to the Federated States or to the region as a whole.
NEW CALEDONIA
1982 – Lenka Topalovitch (none-placer)
- it is an overseas territory of France made up of a main island and several small islands. It is located in the region of Melanesia in the southwest Pacific. The capital and largest city of the territory is Noumea.
NEW HEBRIDES
1978 – Christine Spooner (none-placer)
- it was the colonial name for an island group in the South Pacific that now forms the nation of Vanuatu. The New Hebrides were colonized by both British and French in the 18th century shortly after Captain James Cook visited the island.
RHODESIA & NYASALAND
1961 – Jonee Sierra (none-placer)
- it was a semi-independent state in Southern Africa that existed from 1953 to the end of 1963, compromising the former British protectorates of Southern Rhodesia, Northern Rhodesia, and Nyasaland. It was also known as Central African Federation. It was established on August 1, 1953 and officially collapsed on 31st of December, 1963 when Northern Rhodesia gained independence from UK as the new nation of Zambia and Nyasaland gained independence as the new nation of Malawi. Southern Rhodesia became known as Rhodesia and is now Zimbabwe.
SEYCHELLES
1995 – Maria Payet (none-placer)
- it is an archipelago nation of 155 islands in the Indian Ocean and is officially called the Republic of Seychelles. It has the smallest population of any sovereign state of Africa.
